Culicoides nubeculosus (Meigen, 1830) - farmyard midge
is a biting midge in Europe, the Near East and some surrounding regions, feeding on large mammals including humans and horses. It can experimentally transmit the bluetongue virus and is an intermediate host of Onchocerca cervicalis. It breeds in mud mixed with cattle dung.
