Resistance of bermudagrass selections to the tropical sod webworm (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)
Environmental Entomology 12 (6), 1844-1845
Abstract: Seven clonal selections of bermudagrass, Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. and C. x magenissii (Hurcombe), were exposed simultaneously to adults of the tropical sod webworm, Herpetogramma phaeopteralis Gueneé. Fewer larvae subsequently completed development to the adult stage on bermudagrass selections PI-289922 and PI-289912 relative to commercial cultivars 'Ormond,' 'Tif-green,' and 'Tifway.' Although similar numbers of adults emerged from 'Common,' F13-119, 'Ormond,' 'Tifgreen,' and 'Tifway,' less damage was observed on 'Common' and FB-119 than on 'Tifway' and 'Tifgreen.' Thus, tolerance was indicated.
