Sesamia cretica Lederer - (pink sugarcane borer)

The larvae are a serious pest of maize, sorghum and sugarcane in Africa and Asia. In maize, stems and cobs are attacked with stems often breaking as a result of the damage. Yield losses can reach 50%.

The wingspan of the adult is 3-4 cm and wings are usually yellowish-gray in colour. During its development, the larvae pass through 6-7 instars before pupating at the feeding site.
