Spodoptera ornithogalli (Guenée, 1852) - (yellowstriped armyworm)
is found in eastern parts of North America and also in Central and South America. The caterpillars are gregarious and polyphagous. They often defoliate the plants and also feed on the fruits (e.g. tomatoes, cotton). The development from egg, through 6 larval stages, to mature adult lasts around 6 weeks and there are 3-4 generations per year. It overwinters as pupa in the ground.
