Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) (potato tuber moth)
is a serious pest of growing and stored potatoes, tomatoes and other crops in warmer regions. The larvae mine the foliage and bore into potato tubers and tomato fruits. The insect can be introduced into temperate regions through potato tubers and become a storage pest under warm conditions.
