This ring nematode is a serious agricultural pest, that infests various crops like groundnuts/peanuts, sugarcane, and grasses. Damage has been mainly reported from tropical and subtropical areas in the Americas, but the species is also found in other regions like Africa or southern Asia. In south-eastern North America, it can reduce peanut yields significantly ([[Journal of Nematology (1998) 30, 643-650|Koenning et al., 1998]]).
