Cetoniidae
This family of scarab beetles contains around 4,000 species which are widely distributed. The adults often have metallic colours. The larvae are white grubs and feed on roots. Several species are are considered to be agricultural pests like the green June beetle, Cotinis nitida which damages lawns and fruit trees in North America.
In some species, the adults reach a length of more than 10 cm. The characteristics of this family include the wavy sides of the elytra, a somewhat flattened body and the structure of the antennae with 10 segments and a 3-segmented, terminal club.
