Stomoxys calcitrans (Linnaeus, 1758) - stable fly
is wide-spread and bites humans and animals. In cattle, the stress and resulting avoidance behavior results in reduced weight gain or milk production. It breeds often in stables where sanitation and pesticide applications are standard control methods.
