Stegobium paniceum (Linnaeus) - drugstore beetle
is common in houses and food stores, infesting various organic products.

Synonyms:
Sitodrepa panicea

General Features
Stegobium paniceum (Linnaeus, 1758) is polyphagus insect often called as bread beetles. These beetles shows activity between the month of April to Septeber; in these days they enter into houses, warehouses, museums, and where they get suitable food they get settle. In addition to numerous natural habitats Stegobium paniceum can be found in apiaries as well. They can feed on both food of animal as well as plant origin. Starchy products (amylophagous) are the food of choice of bread beetles; they can occasionally infest wood. Wood is second choice food of bread beetles.
Larvae and adults stay away from light. As they are attracted by ultra-violet light, they can be trapped by this method.
