This kissing bug is a vector of Chagas' disease in Argentina, it is also found in Bolivia and Paraguay. The bug lives mainly in sylvatic habitats, but can also invade houses temporally and feed on humans and domestic animals. However, it appears to feed predominantly on birds and small mammals, including rodents. It is often found in bird nests and tree holes and has been associated with biotopes that include ''Opuntia quimilo'' (e.g. [[Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (2001) 96, 459-466|Vezzani et al., 2001]]). 

The species is closely related to ''[[Triatoma sordida]]''. Both species can be found in the same environment and might even interbreed. ''T. guasayana'' is a better flyer compared to ''T. sordida''.
