Lycoriella ingenua (Dufour, 1839) - (mushroom sciarid fly)

This species of fungus gnats is an important pest in the mushroom industry. It is found in mushroom farms in various countries and breeds in the culture medium. The larvae eat the medium itself as well as the mycelia. They may also attack parts of the fruiting bodies. At higher densities, growth of the mushrooms is reduced and the adult flies can transmit diseases like green mould. In addition the flies are an irritation to workers.
