Amblyseius largoensis (predator) (Muma, 1955)
This predatory mite is common and widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. It preys on a large variety of small arthropods, including spider mites and various other species of pest mites. Small insects can be also part of the diet.
In the Americas, A. largoensis has been often associated with the invasive and destructive red palm mite, Raoiella indica. It feeds on all stages of that pest. Exclusion and release trials in Florida demonstrated that the predator mite has a significant impact on reducing the populations of the pest mite (Carrillo et al., 2014).
