The template countes the number of species in the system which have been entered under the order Diptera (medical/veterinary), but excludes the families Ceratopogonidae, Culicidae, Psychodidae and Simuliidae. The following families are included:
- Calliphoridae
- Chironomidae (nuisance midges)
- Fanniidae
- Glossina (genus)
- Hippoboscidae
- Muscidae (medical/veterinary)
- Oestridae
- Phoridae (medical/veterinary)
- Sarcophagidae
- Scathophagidae
- Tabanidae
It uses the ask function to count the species in the individual families and the parser function <#expr> to add up the results. New families under the Diptera (medical/veterinary) need to be added to this template. Then the page Miscellaneous families of Diptera (medical/veterinary) also needs to be changed.
