Cripavirus ropadi (entomopathogen)
Assigned virus:
• Rhopalosiphum padi virus (RhPV)
The Rhopalosiphum padi virus was originally isolated from a rearing of the aphid Rhopalosiphum padi, but infects also other aphid species and has been also found in field collected aphids. It decreases the longevity and fecundity of its hosts. It is similar to the aphid lethal paralysis virus (Cripavirus mortiferum) but its genome is slightly larger. Both viruses can be transmitted horizontally between insects, but also vertically to their progeny.
