Metarhizium rileyi (entomopathogen) (Farlow) Kepler S.A. Rehner & Humber 2014
This fungus is widely distributed and infects mainly Lepidoptera larvae, but also some species from various other groups like aphids, whiteflies and even beetles and ticks. It is possible to induce it to produce microscrelotia for easier formulation and storage. This can be combined with large scale liquid fermentation and commercialisation (e.g. Song et al., 2017).
The fungus has been known under the name Nomuraea rileyi until 2014, when it was transferred to the genus Metarhizium (see Kepler et al., 2014).
Synonyms:
Nomuraea rileyi
Spicaria rileyi
