Eogystia hippophaecolus (Hua, Chou, Fang & Chen, 1990) - (seabuckthorn carpenterworm)
The moth attacks primarily the trunks and roots of sea buckthorn (Hippophaë rhamnoides) in Asia. This host plant is a shrub, used to prevents soil erosion and desertification. The damage poses a threat to the sea buckthorn plantings in China and the moth has destroyed large areas of H. rhamnoides forests. The moth has 16 larval stages that develop over a period of around 3 years.
