Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis (Bondar) Vauterin et al., 1995 - (bacterial blight of cassava)

The bacterium is a wide-spread pathogen in tropical regions, infecting the vascular system of cassava. It is often present as an epiphyte which becomes a pathogen when entering wounds. The symptoms include angular leaf spot, yellow stem exudates, stem lesions, wilting, blight and dieback. Outbreaks can result in total crop losses. It is mainly controlled through the use of resistant cultivars.
