Varroa Oudemans, 1904
The genus includes the important honey bee parasite Varroa destructor and a few other species of minor significance. The genus is placed under a separate family the Varroidae. The species are brood parasites of honey bee species (Apis) and of East Asian origin. They can be easily recognized by their broad body shape (broader than long) compared to the closest relatives.
