Streptomyces aureofaciens Duggar, 1948
This actinomycete causes scab on potatoes. It has been initially isolated from timothy field soil in North America, but has been also reported from other regions. In culture, it forms a yellow-brown substrate mycelium and a reddish to grey aerial spore-mass. It does not produce diffusible or melanoid pigments and can be also distinguished by its carbon source utilization and DNA structure. For a re-description of this species see Groth et al. (2003).
