Stellaria L. (1753) - (chickweeds)
The genus Stellaria contains more than 100 species of herbaceous plants, found mainly in temperate regions. The most important weed is Stellaria media which is widely distributed and often a problem in cereals, vegetables and various field crops.
The name of the genus refers to the star-like flowers. These have five sepals and five petals with each petal usually being split into two parts.
