Phenology and polymorphism in Callosobruchus theobromae (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)
Polish Journal of Entomology (Polskie Pismo Entomologiczne) 74, 455-463
Abstract: Bruchids generally show phase dimorphism and seasonal variations in their populations. Callosobruchus theobromae (L.), a pest of Glycine max (soybean) and Dolichos lablab (sem) also shows phenological variations and polymorphism during different seasons of the year. Phenotypic variant populations possessed variable patterns of differently coloured setae on pygidium and elytra, variability in adult size, oviposition behaviour, developmental duration and longevity. These variations in setae colouration were prominent in female insects while longevity, developmental duration and size variability during different seasons was similar in both sexes.
