Podisus Herrich-Schaeffer, 1851
The genus contains more than 30 species of omnivorous bugs. They are mainly predators of various arthropods, but also feed on plants. In fact, in times of shortage of prey, pupulations can survive by feeding on plants. The spined soldier bug, a general predator of insects and mites, is commercially available and commonly used in the biological control of pests.
