First report of alder yellows phytoplasma on common alder (Alnus glutinosa) in Serbia

Abstract: During 2007, alder (Alnus glutinosa) plants growing in Serbia were observed with symptoms of discrete leaf yellowing and multiple shoot growth from the basal part of trunk. DNA was extracted from symptomatic plants and analyzed by PCR using phytoplasma specific primers. Subsequent 16S rDNA examination showed the presence in the plants of a phytoplasma belonging to the 16SrV-C group.
