Phoridae (plant parasitic) - (coffin flies)

This family contains around 4,000 species of small greyish-black or yellowish flies, ½ to 6 mm long. They are active runners and biologically very divers. The larvae live mostly on decaying organic matter, but some species are pests of mushroom (e.g. Megaselia halterata) and crops.
