Phalaris (weeds) L. - (canary grasses)

This genus of reed-like grasses contains around 20 species, some of which are cultivated, for example for forage. However, a number of species are weedy and several are invasive like Phalaris arundinacea. The weedy species are mainly a problem in cereals and dense stands may be formed.

The plants can grow to a height of more than 2 m and often have rhizomes. Many species prefer a wet or moist habitat, but some also grow in dry areas.
