Limothrips Haliday, 1836

This genus of thrips is found in Europe, North America and several other regions. It includes 8 species that live on grasses and cereals. Limothrips cerealium and L. denticornis are pests of cereals and are occasionally also found on other crops. The thrips puncture the cells of the leaves and suck out their content, causing white or silvery marks. The economic damage can be significant, e.g. see Larsson (2005).
