Hercinothrips bicinctus (Bagnall 1919) - (banana thrips or banana silvering thrips)

This thrips is found in several tropical and subtropical countries, as well as in greenhouses in temperate regions. It is polyphagous, feeding on bananas and various other plants. The thrips punctures the cells of the plant and sucks out their content. The dead cells appear as tiny white spots and pale or silvery areas develop on the damaged leaves.
