Furia gastropachae (entomopathogen) (Racib.) S. Keller 2005

This fungus has been reported as a pathogen of forest tent caterpillars, Malacosoma disstria, in North America. It can cause epizootics leading to collapse of the pest population. During an epizootic, the disease incidence typically exceeds 20% for late instar caterpillars (Filotas et al., 2003). In North America, F. gastropachae has been confused with Furia crustosa.
