Franklinothrips orizabensis (predator) Johansen, 1974
This ant-like thrips is found in Central America, including parts of North America. It has a similar appearance and biology compared to Franklinothrips vespiformis. F. orizabensis has been introduced into Europe for the biological control of pest thrips in greenhouses (see the Thrips Wiki). In California, it is an important natural enemy of the avocado thrips, Scirtothrips perseae, and augmentive releases against this pest have been investigated (Hoddle et al., 2001).
