Ceratocystis smalleyi J.A. Johnson & T.C. Harr. 2006 - (Ceratocystis canker of bitternut hickory)
This fungus causes canker and crown decline of bitternut hickory (Carya cordiformis) in the north-central and northeastern United States. Infected trees have a reddish brown discoloration of the sapwood and may die within 2-3 years. Infections are associated with attacks by the bark beetle Scolytus quadrispinosus.
