Becurtovirus (genus)

This genus contains viruses similar to the Beet curly top Iran virus. The viruses cause leaf curl diseases on beet, spinach and other crops. They are transmitted by leafhoppers and have twin particles with a single-stranded DNA genome. The DNA has a size of about 3 kb and encodes 5 proteins. The viruses are similar to those of the genus Curtovirus and in their gene expression strategy also to those of the genus Mastrevirus.
