Adoretus Laporte de Castelnau, 1840
This is a large genus of leaf beetles with more than 400 species. The members are mainly found in tropical and subtropical parts of Asia, the Pacific and Africa. The adults are around 1 cm long and brownish with cream-colored scales. Several species are important crop pests with the adults feeding on leaves and the larvae developing in decomposing organic matter or damaging roots. For example, the Chinese rose beetle (Adoretus sinicus) is a polyphagous pest in eastern Asia and the Pacific.
