16SrVI phytoplasma group - (clover proliferation phytoplasma group)

The phytoplasmas of this group are related to the clover proliferation phytoplasma ('Candidatus Phytoplasma trifolii'), based on their 16S rRNA structure. The members of the group have a wide distribution and infect a variety of plants such as vegetables, potatoes, fruit trees and ornamentals. They cause various malformation symptoms like phyllody, witches’-broom, little leaf or big bud. Transmission by leafhoppers has been reported.
