Papaveraceae (weeds) - (poppy family)

The family contains mainly herbs but also some shrubs and trees. There are several hundred species found mainly in the northern hemisphere. A number of species are important weeds like corn poppy.

The plants often have milky or colored sap. The flowers contain 4-12 petals in 1-2 whorls which are often crumpled in the bud. The fruits are capsular, typically with many seeds.
