Gryllus Linnaeus, 1758 - (field crickets)

This genus of crickets is widely distributed and includes around 80 species. They are polyphagous and can also damage crops, like Gryllus pennsylvanicus in North America and G. bimaculatus in Europe, Asia and Africa. The crickets usually live in the ground and the adults are typically around 2 cm long. The species are often easier to identify by their songs than by morphological characters. Other cricket genera like Acheta may also be called "field crickets".
