This beetle family contains more than 3,000 species that feed and breed on fungi. They may also be found in logs and stumps. Some species are regarded as mushroom pests in Asia like Dacne picta. The adults range in size from a few mm to more than 2 cm with an oval shape. Many are brightly coloured with a reddish-orange and black pattern. The antennae are clubbed and the tarsi have 5 segments on all legs.
