Apocynum L. - (dogbanes)

This genus contains less than 10 species of herbaceous plants or shrubs which are found in temperate parts of North America, Europe and Asia. Some species have been previously used as a source of fibres, but two species are regarded as agricultural weeds in North America and affect crops like maize, soybean or blueberry. Hemp dogbane (Apocynum cannabinum) can reduce the yield of several crops significantly, further it is poisonous to livestock.
